Shapewear Guide: What to Wear Under a Sari, Lehenga or Fitted Dress

Wedding season in Pakistan means saris, lehengas, fitted maxis and long hours on your feet. The right shapewear smooths your silhouette without making you miserable. Here is what to wear under each outfit, based on what our customers actually come back for.

Under a sari: high-waist shaping panty

A sari sits on the waist, so the goal is a smooth tummy and hips with nothing showing at the waistline. A high-waist seamless shaping panty that reaches just under the bust works best. Avoid anything with a thick band at the waist — it will show under the pleats.

Under a lehenga: waist trainer or slimming belt

Lehengas are heavy and sit lower on the hips. A waist trainer or slimming belt gives a defined waist and extra back support for long functions. Wear it over a camisole so the hooks never touch your skin.

Under a fitted maxi or gown: full body shaper

For a fitted dress you want one smooth line from bust to thigh. A full body shaper or shaping body suit removes every bump and doubles as a slip. Choose a style with adjustable straps and a built-in bra if your dress is sleeveless.

Under a lawn kurta or shirt: light tummy control

For daily wear you do not need firm compression. A light tummy-control brief or seamless shaping short is enough to smooth the lines under lawn and chiffon.

How to choose the right size

• Pick your current size, not a size down. Shapewear that is too small rolls down and cuts in, which looks worse than no shapewear.
• Firm compression is for a few hours at an event. For all-day wear choose light or medium.

Rule of thumb: if you cannot sit, eat and breathe comfortably, it is the wrong size, not the wrong product.

Hand wash in cold water, never wring, and dry flat in the shade. Elastic fibres lose their stretch in direct sun and hot water.
